| Vereiste | Betere keuze |
|---|---|
| Enkelkleurige LED, alleen helderheid | DT6 |
| 0–100% dimmen van één CV-uitgang | DT6 |
| Tunable white / CCT-regeling | DT8 |
| Warm-witte + koel-witte LED's | DT8 |
| RGB / RGBW-toepassingen | DT8, afhankelijk van de implementatie |
| Eenvoudige, kostenbewuste verlichting | DT6 |
| Geavanceerde kleurtemperatuurregeling | DT8 |
Certificeringscontrole is waar importeurs zichzelf beschermen of gokken.
|---|---|---|
| DALI-2-naleving | Protocolinteroperabiliteit, getest tegen IEC 62386-protocolvereisten | Multi-vendor besturingssystemen |
| CE | Europese veiligheids- en EMC-richtlijnen | EU-markten (Italië, Frankrijk, Duitsland, VK) |
| SAA | Australische elektrische veiligheidsgoedkeuring | Australië, sommige Zuidoost-Aziatische projecten |
| CB | Internationaal IEC-testrapportschema | Snellere goedkeuring in meerdere landen |
| SELV | Veiligheids-extra-laagspanning uitgangsontwerp | 12V/24V CV LED-stripinstallaties |
The signal chain that actually matters
For a tunable white CV driver, the path looks like this:
- DALI command arrives from the controller
- The driver MCU interprets it
- PWM or current regulation is applied
- The WW/CW LED channels respond
The quality of the final result depends heavily on the driver’s internal control algorithm. Two DT8 drivers can behave quite differently in minimum dimming level 3, CCT transition smoothness, channel matching, PWM frequency, flicker performance, power-on behavior, DALI fade timing, and low-end dimming stability. This is where the real engineering difference between CV drivers often hides—not in the words “DT6” or “DT8” printed on the datasheet.
Practical compatibility checks before you commit
Check whether your controller supports DT8 natively. Older DALI-1 controllers often do not, and some modern DT8 drivers can be configured to mimic multiple DT6 addresses as a workaround for legacy systems. Confirm the dimming curve, too—most DALI systems expect a logarithmic dimming curve 4, and a mismatch causes visible steps at low levels. Verify the DALI bus power supply has enough current headroom for all connected devices, since each control gear draws standing current from the bus. Finally, ask about PWM synchronization: quality DT8 CV drivers synchronize PWM across channels to prevent color breakup, which is a common artifact when mixing colors with multiple independent DT6 drivers.
Our tech support team runs a joint bench test with the client’s exact controller model whenever possible. It has saved more projects than any datasheet ever has.
When a distributor client in Vietnam received a competitor’s batch with inconsistent low-end dimming, he sent us photos on WhatsApp asking what went wrong. The answer was batch-level QC, not design.
Large projects amplify small defects. One flickering driver in a sample looks like bad luck; two hundred in a hotel installation looks like a lawsuit. Here are the failure points we test hardest on our own lines, and the ones importers should demand evidence for.
The quality checklist for volume orders
| Quality issue | How it shows up on site | How to verify before shipping |
|---|---|---|
| Low-end flicker | Visible strobing below 10% brightness | Request flicker test data; premium DALI-2 drivers dim smoothly to very deep levels |
| Unit-to-unit variance | Adjacent LED strips at different brightness | Ask for batch sampling reports at minimum dim level |
| Channel mismatch (DT8) | Color temperature adjustment looks patchy | Test WW/CW output balance across sample units |
| Power-on behavior | Fixtures flash at full brightness on mains restore | Confirm programmable power-on and system-failure levels |
| Fade timing errors | Scenes transition at different speeds | Verify DALI fade time compliance on a real bus |
| Thermal derating | Drivers fail early in enclosed ceilings | Check tc point rating and derating curve |
Why batch consistency is the real differentiator
CV drivers for tunable white are especially sensitive to firmware. If a factory silently updates the MCU code between batches, fade timing and dimming curves can shift. On a phased project—say, a building fitted floor by floor over six months—that shift becomes visible where old and new batches meet. We lock firmware versions per order and note them on our QC records, because mixed behavior across batches is one of the most common complaints buyers bring us from previous suppliers.
Also insist on a clear warranty process in writing before payment. A common pain point I hear from buyers is suppliers who quote a five-year warranty verbally, then dispute every claim. Ask exactly how failed units are handled: replacement shipped with the next order, credit note, or return-for-repair. The answer tells you a lot about the factory behind the driver.

Conclusion
Choosing between DALI DT6 and DT8 for CV drivers comes down to matching the protocol to your control needs—then verifying certification, compatibility, and batch quality before you commit.
The label on the datasheet is the starting point, not the answer. DT6 covers single channel dimming honestly and affordably. DT8 unlocks tunable white control and RGBW color mixing with efficient addressing. But the real engineering lives inside the driver: the algorithm mapping DALI commands to CV outputs, the PWM behavior, the flicker performance, the firmware discipline across batches. I have watched projects succeed because a buyer asked one extra question about DT8 control types, and I have watched others stall because nobody checked the DALI-2 registry. If you are specifying drivers for your next project, test a sample on your actual bus, demand the real test reports, and get warranty terms in writing. When you work with a supplier who treats those steps as normal rather than negotiable, most of the risks in this article simply disappear.
